Uganda is taking part in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Global Gathering in Kathmandu, Nepal from 4th-7th November 2019. The theme of the Global Gathering is “Nourishing People and the Planet Together”.
The conference brings together more than 60 countries who make up the SUN Movement. It presents an opportunity to share information and lessons on scaling up nutrition globally.
The gathering also explores the future of the SUN Movement in preparation for its 3rd strategic plan focusing on sustainable development, climate change and food systems.
Uganda is one of the “Early Riser” SUN countries having joined the Movement in 2011. Uganda’s strategy to fight malnutrition is reflected in the National Nutrition Action Plan, coordinated by the Office of the Prime Minister.
Reflecting on the country’s multi-sectoral / multi-stakeholder approach towards nutrition, Uganda’s delegation in Kathmandu has representatives from Government, Development partners, and Civil Society Organizations.
Under CSOs, Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition Uganda (CISANU) is represented by the Convener Richard Baguma.
A joint stall to show case a number of multi sectoral nutrition projects implemented in Uganda has been erected at the event.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for Nepal who presided over the opening ceremony visited Uganda’s stall. Others included the UN Assistant Secretary General and SUN Movement Coordinator Gerda Verburg and former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikweta.
